Your Health, Our Priority - Register Today

As a student studying in Scotland, navigating health concerns for the first time can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unfamiliar with how healthcare in the NHS works. But did you know your local pharmacy is one of the most accessible and underused resources available to you?

Why register for a pharmacy? Registering is quick, easy and free. Using the same pharmacy means your pharmacist can build up a record of your treatment over time, helping them give you better, more personalised advice whenever you need it.

At Bannerman’s Pharmacy, trained pharmacists can help with a wide range of common health concerns, often without the need for a GP appointment. Whether you need advice on a minor illness, help with a prescription, or information about local health services, Bannerman’s Pharmacy is a great first step.

NHS Pharmacy First Program

The Pharmacy First program can offer treatment suggestions and prescription medicine, often without needing an appointment with your GP. Some of the conditions treatable by NHS Pharmacy First are listed in this bulleted list.

In most cases, an appointment isn’t needed to visit the pharmacy. However, if you’d prefer to plan ahead or fit a visit around your classes or timetable, you can book a time in advance to make sure you’re seen without the wait. When you speak with a prescribing pharmacist at Bannerman’s, you’ll be asked a series of questions to find the treatment that’s right for you. You don’t need to be registered with a GP first. As long as you’ve been living in Scotland for at least three months, we can assist you using Pharmacy First.

  • Chicken Pox vaccination – protects against the varicella-zoster virus, which causes the highly contagious disease.
  • Shingles vaccination – protects from reactivation of the chicken pox virus, which occurs as a painful rash, especially in those over 50.

For those with weakened immune systems, infants, or the elderly, these vaccinations are especially important. Contact Bannerman’s Pharmacy today to schedule an appointment for your next vaccination.

A pharmacist can help with a wide range of minor illnesses, including sore throat, earache, cold sores, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin infections, impetigo, shingles, allergies, athlete’s foot, and more. They can also advise on coughs, colds, headaches, and other common concerns.

Yes. If the pharmacist feels your condition needs further assessment, they will refer you to a GP or another appropriate NHS service. They can sometimes do this directly on your behalf.

Yes. All NHS prescriptions are completely free in Scotland, regardless of your age, income, or whether you are a home or international student.
